This third edition of La Carrera Panamericana featured the debut of several new entries:

1954 – S1.5 – #58 Porsche 550 Spyder – Distribuidora Volkswagen Central South America – Fernando Segura/Linge

Result: 12th overall/4th in class… created by yours truly

1953 – TS – #226 – Ford 6 – Ellico/Ford – Mickey Thompson / Rodger Flores

Result: DNF… created by JMSRacer

1952 – S – #10 Porsche 356 Super – von Berckheim/Linge/von Hohenlohe

Result: DNF accident 3rd leg… created by yours truly.

1950 – T – #52 – Oldsmobile 88 – Hershel McGriff / Ray Elliott – City of Roses

Result: Winner.  …created by JMSRacer.

Along with these four new entries other returning participants completed the field bringing the total number of models to 9. Those who had raced in at least one prior Carrera Panamericana were:

Alfonso de Hohenlohe in a Volkswagen 1200:

Bill von Esser in the lone Corvette C1:

Flash Gordon in his Ford 8:

Gordon doing his best to hang on to the Porsche of Suhr under braking for the Xavier narrows.

Playboy Alfonso ‘Fon’ de Portago in his hand painted Ferrari 750 Monza:

Hermann Lang in his futuristic 300SL (because it was a later W196 body):

The number 3 Mercedes 300SL W196 braking into the first corner.

Practiced but did not start:

‘Flash’ Gordon in his Ford 8 would practice but did not start the race.

The field would leave in 3 minute intervals.
