in reply to: A Decade of Spa Lyons! #20070

Hi lads, have been lurking but just not posting…Hard to believe 10 years of Spa, and alas, no racing here for the past 18+ months, but I think that may change before the New Year, stay tuned, and stay well!

    in reply to: R32 XLIII @ The Ring – November 29, 2021 (7pm) #20700

Was great to be back to the Ring after a long hiatus(for me), some excellent duels, lots of fun! As always, thanks for hosting, and also the great pictorials!!

in reply to: New track in the east #30155

Molto benne paisan, The “Mille Manuel”, “LeManuel” or whatever fine moniker you choose to name this track, is looking great! ANd, like all, wishing you the best health. A “gaggle of cones” is good, geese, not so much… :>) I believe I can contribute to conification, and also have a lot of tires you’re welcome to have should you need them; also additional signage should you require…. Happy to see the monitor up and operative. Stay well!

As expected, another “work of Art”, spectacular!! Looking forward to spinning (LONG) laps. I may need a ‘spotter’ to let me know where I am on the track! LOL.

in reply to: The new Hot Rod Garage #31213

WOW Ken, looks like you’ll be ‘cookin up’ some beauts in the Kitchen, and who knew you were so NEAT and ORGANIZED! LOL, Great work!!

in reply to: The new Hot Rod Garage #33460

Well Ken, ‘organizing’ my tuning room has been on my Agenda for…well, fuggetaboutit, a long time, so you inspired me to git er done, and I have!!

Still a ways to go, sorting parts/cars, organize tools, but WAAAAAY better(even MRS. Porsche911 impressed!) :>)

    Thank you!!

in reply to: The new Hot Rod Garage #33494

Hey Ken, why limit yourself to 906’s…Consider the 908’s, 910’s, 914’s, 917’s and of course, the 911’s!!!   :>)

in reply to: Making Cupcake Raceway #32561

Would love to run on this, another phenomenal “work of Art”! Dessert in the Desert, I love it!!!

in reply to: R32 @ Spa Lyons #37852

Hi gents, apologies, late to the show here…Took a “webless weekend” :>) Yes, great to see Spa being enjoyed, some good jousts, a few spectator casualties, and we’ve now met Gary’s alter ego…The “Scarbourough Smasher”, he punches well above his weight, just ask my ‘ticket takers’… :>)

No worries, they’ve been released from the Scalextric Trackside Infirmary and will not have any life altering issues. We also now know that MiA may be missing, but when he does show up, he’s an hour early!! Hmmm, and about Pineapple on Pizza??? Big thank you to Art for capturing and posting the pics!!

in reply to: Alfa Romeo at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana #38282

JMS, you beat me to posting the link, found it yesterday also, was going to try and first find some history on the 67 ‘Stradale’ Spyder example on the site which intrigued me before posting, a beautiful car, see if it would be eligible for any of our classes…Alas, unless our resident ALfa-Holic voices to the contrary, my research today says it is NOT. :>( 18 cars only produced, NO race provenance. And yes, a non expert(moi) would say the 1955 rendering is pretty close…

Has anyone ordered from here? I read that there is a Caveat emptor stating the body may be somewhat ‘brittle’…

in reply to: Alfa Romeo at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana #38285

You don’t even need to filter….Just look at left pane, A-Z…A few caught my eye yesterday, Porsches of course!Always wanted a 909 Bergspyder, but the only resin I ever saw were UBER expensive, and and least from pics, looked very poor quality…

    https://3dprintable.shop/product-category/porsche/

Having said that, the 1 MAJOR factor is there aren’t many ‘Printed models’, you’re purchasing the file download only…. SO how many of you have a 3D Printer?? :>)

That is 1 Heavy Chevy!!!  How did you achieve the design detail/panels, looks AMAZING, assuming they’re a decal kit for this model? If it wasn’t included in kit, where’d you source?

in reply to: Large Scale Vintage Fun #39899

Lots goin on here…MiA with his Elves(thought the only 1’s you knew were ‘Keebler’) hahaha…Red White and Blue, Ol’ Glory looking great, and KRZ, excellent colour choice! The wheels are EXACTLY the style(Cragar or Torqthrust) that I’m trying to source, so our Art-ist extraordinaire can fashion sets for us. I think they’d look amazing on my soon to be finished(I hope) Impala

in reply to: Spa Lyons Feb 10 2024 #43112

You set the bar/standard high Bill, feeble effort to keep up! :>) Was originally going to be ‘Ranchero Sombrero’, had a lot of Mexican Day of the Dead type images ready to go for decals, then just used what I had (no printer ink at the time) :>) So 666 ‘Lil Devil’ he was, looks great in IMNSHO…

Too slow to run with the Big Dawgs in this group, but makes me smile when I spin a few laps with it, worth the time…

Hey Vanski, long time, happy to see you back(The Force is Strong!) :>)  Can’t believe you never saw the flick…Glad you did, that’s 1 great lookin’ Baaad/Hevy Chevy, now all you need is a 1/32 ‘ The Driver’. LOL.

in reply to: 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air #42666

THAT is way TOO PRETTY to race, FANTASTIC!! The driver detail as always is sooo realistic/life like, I think I see Ciggy smoke coming from his ashtray. :>)

in reply to: IROC 2024 Series #42665

Nicely done Jim, who knew a Gulf Livery Ferrari would look so GOOD, surprised John Wyer never did employ1! Hmmm, that aluminum chassis looks familiar, KRZ engineering at it’s finest. What gearing did you use. And for the Rosso R32 Classic Era Prototype & Sportscar class entry, better put some numbers on it, don’t want to be DQ’d off the top podium position. :>)

in reply to: Corvair progress, slowly…. #42647

Thanks Ken! Wish I had another now :>( as I’d like to try a slimcan version….

in reply to: Corvair progress, slowly…. #42641

Apologies for duplicity….added update to post last night, but it didn’t ‘take’, waited 20 minutes, came back/refreshed, nada, so added again, just now, VOILA! Hmmmm, tried to get rid of ‘1st’ update but won’t allow me to edit… :>( Any, now to try and improve/break in.

in reply to: Corvair progress, slowly…. #42637

FINALLY finished (well still have to complete exhaust), LOTS of fiddling trying to get ‘flat tray’ interior to accommodate S-can,  and though I didn’t want to SLAM to a low rider, wouldn’t have minded a wee bit less height overall… Initial shakedown is OK, won’t be a winner, home made roll bar likely weighs too much too, but looks DAMN good scooting around… 10X24 gearing on KRZ makes it smooth, perhaps get another, make into SCCA/USRRC Plus, will see after I finish the umpteen other(or at least a few) of other kits/chassis I have on the go…

Realized I omitted 1 link to racing provenance.

in reply to: Corvair progress, slowly…. #42325

Hi gents, thanks for Kudos! After painstaking research, I determined that the Corvair did also participate in some Endurance racing, 1961 Kyalami, and 66 Daytona and 12HR Marlboro, there may be a few others that I cannot find conclusive evidence, so…..does that mean with FLY/Scaley 18K Motor I could participate in both Endurance Sportscar and SCCA/USRRC Plus?? Haven’t put in Motor yet but was only initially considering slow Motor SCCA/USRRC Sportscar. Happy either way, but would be nice to utilize in both. Opinions welcomed.

The “Grasshopper” has done well, and of course, you’re playing your flute as you walk. :>)  Ken has taken the old phrase “Go Big or Go Home”, and accomplished both, he’s gone BIG, and done it at HOME!!! I think you could fit a FIT (Honda) in there. :>)

Yes, SLOTMODS produce some cool/gimmicky platforms for some of their creations, bespoke tracks for those with MEGA$$$$$$$…

they sold a “Porsche917” Lemans homage track on Bring a Trailer for a paltry $205 K US!! Very cool, but you’d thing they would have had period pit crews/mechanics/drivers in the Pit Lane!!!! We’re blessed with running on some of the finest tracks around, bar none, and I think we know someone that could build about 25+ for that kind of money!! :>)

in reply to: Aston Ulster PGP+ entry #32676

@ JMS, yes the ‘vintage finish’ was complimented by the ‘track jettison’….. 5/6 laps, beautiful, smooth, handled great, then WAMMO, NO Brakes at the end of the long straight(fudged braids me thinks)…. BOOM, hit the floor, 1 headlight casualty, an Arm amputation, and a wonky rear post…Fortunately, with a 12 year old Scotch(for the surgeon), the arm was re-attached(though not quite as dexterous as previously), both headlights then became ‘lowered’, and the body post fixed by the Lyon garagistas… But yes, some wash and slight ‘bluing’ of the pipes gives it a decent effect, certainly not concours, but I’m happy with the 3/30 effect, 3 feet and 30MPH, looks good. :>) and I’m happy with the way it runs.

Hey MiA, from what I could glean(assuming the matchbox model WAS based on the real car), appears raced in the Targa Abruzza/Abruzzi 1935, independent entry, but no pics… And who knew(other than MiA), that may were raced in what I’d call ‘French Bleu’ or ‘Ferrari Rosso’…

in reply to: IROC Series Anyone? #30104

I shouldn’t have assumed that our Master tuner would maintain the fleet of cars(inferior) and my apologies…I’d be happy to participate in whatever the majority/consensus deem, with 1 caveat… A true IROC to me would be each pilot ‘rotates’ through the lanes, driving a different car in each heat, assigned to said lane, thus making it ‘even’ and levelling the playing field. I think it will become clearly evident, that after 1 or 2 races, a few cars will be the fastest, and or superior in handling to others, and consequently, the ‘random chip draw’ will become an important factor, which it shouldn’t be. I would still suggest that we purchase enough cars to rotate(3 cars 1 event, different 3 the next) and so forth.

in reply to: IROC Series Anyone? #30091

Hi gents, as several of you know, I suggested an IROC years ago(as well as front Motor), no one appeared too interested…perhaps times have changed.

As much as my FAVE class of racing CLM is, I’d suggest something different,  unlike any class we currently race,  and less expensive, than say NSR’s, or the soon to be released Pioneer(which from what I’ve read is NO WHERE NEAR Scale, and may be Livery limited)…. I have no issues shelling out whatever is required, assuming we’d all be buying the parts, Art  tuning the cars etc, however,  there may be some members that , with no deference intended, are more ‘fiscally prudent’, as I also try to be… We already have lots of ‘fast classes’, and over the years, typically, the ‘closest’ racing we always have, is also the closest to stock configuration,  NASCAR…. In the 1:1 world, I’m not a NASCAR fan per se, left turn left turn, though their road races are generally good…

I’m not sure what what class/style may be decided on, but…. I found these. We could buy 3 for the cost of 1NSR (they’re less than $40 CDN with shipping on AMZN), there are multiple liveries, and I’d expect(not having run them) to be as durable as a NASCAR. (Has anyone got 1??)

To me the idea of IROC is a random selection of cars, run by all…Red/White/Blue 1 race, Green/Yellow/Orange the next, and ‘held’ (Art?) until delivered to the Host… we could buy 6 cars for less than $250, + tires, less than $300 for the entire Club!! Surely enough to get us through a season of racing… Slap a set of Dart’s, perhaps some weight, Start yer engines!!

    Eager to hear your thoughts

Meant to mention, there are 8 liveries available at $29CAD + $9 shipping.

Gents, hope all are well! I will not be attending and as such I believe I am happy with the rules as they currently are, however, Racer68’s suggestion is not unreasonable, though I’m not sure that perhaps there would be an advantage in shodding HR’s with wider wheels/tires?? I think that within reason, as long as the appearance is period/genre correct, that would be fine, but having said that, we know that in years past there have been several members that abide by the Smokey Yunnick ethos… And perhaps this is NOT the correct forum to address return to racing, policy and practice, so MODS please feel free to move, but as a host, I’m interested in what members think. I will entertain hosting racing in the fall, dependent on where we are health wise in the battle, but  I will require a ‘Vaccine Passport’ to allow guests to race at Spa.

LOL… That being said, surely an unused part of a trust fund, Tech takeover, or best of all, perhaps Marrying a rich debutante will allow them to continue this pursuit, but I digress…. Just thoroughly enjoyed the 70’s F1 series of races, and WOW, great battles, particularly the Jean Alesi Ferrari 312 and Marco Werner Lotus 78 tete a tete, encroyable!! This, and Goodwood are now are on my bucket list!! Thanks for sharing Bill!!

Stay well everyone, looking forward to when we may convene, wear our Hazmat suits, errr I mean Slotcar Nomex and race again! :yahoo:

Very very COOL Steve, and the ‘variable length’ would I guess make the chassis more viable for other cars/classes as well, multi functional!! :good:

Question though, and I’m sure others waaay more knowledgeable than I can opine… Do you think that your initials, the ‘open/cut out’ part of the chassis may compromise the structural integrity? Perhaps ‘etching’ them, or a raised low profile may work better? Regardless, I’m sure those here may be lining up soon, if you intend to produce/sell?

    Stay well!

Thanks all for the assistance, and Chris, excellent detail as always, greatly appreciated! Now off to find what appears to be Unobtanium in Milton…

Red Locktite…”Permatex” appears en vogue, Home Hardware, Crappy Tire, HD… Hope it will do the trick
