      Player’s 200

      October 28, 2019 – The Ring

This will be our inaugural Scratch32 Player’s 200 – a new spin off series from CANAM Thunder which will incorporate SCCA/USRRC models that raced between 1960 through to and including 1965. Models that may have also competed in (and especially those that achieved success) in the CANAM series are STRONGLY discouraged from this event. Period fantasy liveries are permitted. Since it doesn’t matter what class a model actually raced in this is a very wide net. Models must be ‘scratch built’ meaning that either the body or the chassis (or preferably both) must be original creations.

As in CANAM Thunder we’ll divide these models into two sub-classes:

      • (PC) – the usual ‘low power’ motor (see our list of low power motors in the Scratch32 Rules);
      • (PC+) – unlimited motor (if it doesn’t qualify for PC then it falls into PC+ and this can range from any vintage motor to anything custom made, sealed or not sealed.

Regardless of group or class every model that takes to the track MUST have DArt club urethane tires. Hard bodies are also a requirement. That is it. If in doubt ask. Any tire that adversely affects the performance of other participants will be checked and/or result in exclusion.

No ‘master list’ of eligible models or entries will be provided since it is easy enough to find much of this information freely on the internet. Do some research first and then ask if you have questions. It is expected that you share with the group some of the history of the models. Register your eligible models within this thread.

Format will be sprint heats, as usual. Models will however be penalizing for every second off per heat with the loss of a lap – so make sure both you and your models are solid runners for this one!

To register your models for this event just reply within this thread and make sure to specify whether your model is a PC or PC+ class entry. The number of entries allowed per builder/class will depend on how many models are registered.

If you don’t have a scratch eligible model and still wish to participate you are welcome to register a RTR model with slow motor PC (or not PC+) as a placeholder.

      Good Luck!

If you do not have an eligible model please contact me directly to discuss your predicament. As always – more flexibility will be afforded to newbies…

A place-holder is on loan from the Hot Rod Garage to a driver by the name of Luis Norris. Distant cousin to Chuck maybe?

      1961 Austin Healey 3000 #35 (SP)

      Best of luck Mr. Norris.

Luis is now the new owner of the Austin Healey. It no longer resides at the Hot Rod Garage. Congrats Luis!

May the force of Chuck Norris be with you!

Jerry Crawford in the blue Lotus 30 #6 has withdrawn. Too much motor on skinny tires makes for egg shaped tires very quickly. That needs to be sorted before racing again. The learning curve continues.

Helmut Blaupunkt in the blue Porsche RS61 has stepped up to the plate to represent PC+ for the Hot Rod Garage.

      Just a few reminders:

      1. Format will be multiple sprint heats of 4 minutes each.
      2. Models will be penalizing for every second off per heat with the loss of a lap.
      3. If you don’t have a scratch eligible model and still wish to participate you are welcome to register a RTR model with slow motor PC (or not PC+) as a placeholder.

      See ya’ll soon!

Ecurie Lyons is pleased to see that RTR’s  are allowed to attend this event! As such, Cheetah, King Cobra, Shelby Cobra, 250 LM from Enzio’s stable, and perhaps a Jim Hall Vette will be considered. Hope my Ring rust won’t be too evident….Looking forward to seeing fellow racers!! :yahoo:

From the not too hoot garage I manage to build the Porsche 904 GTS #3 driven by Hugh Dibley in 1964, he had some problems at customs so his mechanics could not build the car as he expected so some future changes to come.

With several cars on the wrong side of either the date or class lines, MIA Garages will bring a mix:

      Scratch car:

A Jag D Type as raced in 1963 by Ed Rahal that finished 3rd in the over 2 ltr. class at Pensacola. (Slow Motor)
      RTR:

A Chapparal 2 as raced by Jim Hall and Hap Sharp at numerous events. (Slow Motor)

A King Cobra as raced by many at numerous events. (Slow Motor)

A Porsche 904 as raced by many from 64 on. (Slow Motor)

I’m in but don’t have a scratch car either so I will run the following.

#27 Austin Healey 3000 as driven by our good friend Paddy. PC class

#98 King Cobra as driven by Dave McDonald or #93 Bob Bondurant as an alt.# if needed since there are already a few mystery King Cobras mentioned above. PC+ class

Thanks for hosting a great inaugural Players 200. :yahoo:

Given the variety and types of cars that ran, this could well become one of the best and most interesting events on the calendar! B-)

Stirling Moss winner of the 1962 Players 200 in a Lotus 19

Bill Sadler in a Sadler Mk.V finished 14th in 1961. His team mate in a similar Sadler (#51) finished 5th
