I’m chuckling as I look through the list of cars that ran in the under 2-liter Trans Am class. Ford/Lotus Cortina, Ford Pinto, Chevy Vega, Ford Escort Mk1, Mini Cooper… just to mention but a few. I doubt anyone envied a driver that raced a Pinto. B-)

I’m just curious if open TA means any car that can be proven to have raced in Trans Am between 1966 and 1973? As in cars from the list above. Porsche 911’s included. Any motor in any proven Trans Am car? Scary thought.

      The reason I ask… I have a 1969 Porsche 911 and a 1971 Ford Escort Mk1. I can put 40k motors in both cars?

      Cheers,

      Ken

What do you mean think outside the box? Where did you even get a box? Where's my box?
Even though I may be new at this myself. How can I help you build your car?

Any car that raced in Trans Am in those years, any motor. I envy your energy and enthusiasm Ken. :good:

So far it looks like the logical period to target would be 1966 through 1973…

Don’t forget the Trans Am VW Super Beetle.

Both Luis and I have Chargers, and we were hoping to run them in the Trans-Am series.

Trans-Am series was based on a platform called a “pony car”. A smaller cubic inch American sports car (just over 300 cid). Many smaller 4 and 6-cylinder cars entered along with the V8’s like VW’s and Porsche.

But the Dodge Charger was never considered a pony car with that massive 426 Hemi under the hood. Sorry Luis. Our Hemi Chargers are Stock-Car material only.

If anyone has trouble finding a type of car to build? This list will overwhelm you with choices.

MIA. You can race your red Alfa you just showed us at the last race. Put a scratch chassis under it.

Click on a race, and enjoy seeing the details of the many cars that raced in the 1966 to 1973 Trans-Am series.

Happy and successful building everyone! Let’s see some cool paint jobs!

As I’m going through the list of races myself, I’m saying in my head “Oh that’s cool! And that’s nice too. I’ve always wanted one of those!” :yahoo:

A few races into it I start saying “Hey, I already got that car. And that car too!”

All the cars in the photo below are legal for TA. The 3-cars on the left are slow TA, and the 2-cars on the right qualify for TA+.

I would like to formally apologize for any confusion with the list of eligible TransAm cars from Racing Sports Cars.

There are several races where TransAm class cars were invited to race along side LeMans class cars for a special event. That does not make a LeMans car eligible for TransAm racing. TransAm cars are road cars. Off the shelf consumer owned “pony cars”.

Luis and I would like to bring our Dodge Chargers. But the rules say they are not included the TransAm class.

Once again my apologies for the confusion.

Guess what other car was raced in the 1966 Trans Am series?

The Corvair is eligible for slow or unlimited Sports Car, SCCA, and TA. :yahoo:
